Sorry Comics

I’ve recently come across Sorry Comics by a guy called John. His comics are startlingly honest, well observed stories of very personal experiences and thoughts, which is perhaps why he keeps his surname to himself. I’ve seen many confessional comics that seem more like a cry for attention but John’s comics don’t have that subtext, they’re certainly cathartic for him but don’t demand the reader feel sorry for him, in fact many of the thoughts he shares are the kind of typical, and perhaps shallow, male reactions most of us try to hide. The art is clear, the blue tones work nicely and he brings a deceptively smart variety to the six panel grid he’s given himself. It won’t be to everyone’s tastes, this close a look at a stranger’s personal life can be offputting for some, but for those interested in the approaches towards autobiography it’s well worth a look.

Adam, are you sure he conceals his surname? It says, right there on the front page, “Copyright © 2009 John Kinhart.” Am I missing something here?

Thanks for the pointer! This is indeed a brilliant comic, though I now can’t stop reading it, which is eating up most of my evening…curse you Cadwell!

Doh! Thanks Spencer, making me look like a right old fool. Yep, it says his name right at the bottom of the blog, not the most obvious place but it’s there.

as well as being ubertalented, he’s also a really nice bloke – he follows lots of other comic blogs and comments on my postings all the time.

We grew up in the same area. The river his friend Ben drowned in is the same river my dad used to take us fishing at.
